Dear all,
We have the opportunity to get 4 boards back…
OTOH, we have someone waiting for this… I have discussed with Adam to understand his request a bit better (it was entered at the time of the DSbD program), please find his arguments below:
We did send more information about the honeypot, but it was declined because Morello was seen as a test platform rather than something production ready. We were not planning to say that it was CHERI or Morello until we knew it was solid. A lot of work had gone into making the environment secure, so it would not affect other tenants, and we even had a potential partnership with an insurance company. It is what it is.
It still could have made a great talk. If you want to promote CHERI, you can say that it was placed in a hostile environment and that you annoyed a group of hackers. That gets everyone's attention.
I am pretty sure we will see somebody do this. We have mentioned that we worked on a Linux port, focused on cgroups, fork and pivot. We even ported Perl and a few package managers. We were ignored, then it was redone by countless others. We had a survey of packages, what would build, what would not, and an analysis of the build tree. We put a proposal together for containerd, knowing we were close to a deliverable, we had capability based chroots and that died as well. A very similar project was given to somebody else. You get used to it.
I always speak positively about the CHERI project when I am talking with members in government and I think we have a real opportunity to do better for our members going forward.
If you are happy with this, I’d be tempted to ask for these boards to be sent directly to Adam: this would save in shipping costs and would not require us to store them! 😊
He already has a few boards, so he already agreed to Arm’s conditions. Is there something else to record on the Arm side?
Thanks!
